Pearls are a subtle and unique way to add a touch of elegance and class to any outfit. It’s no wonder why they have proven through the decades to be one of the most timeless pieces of jewelry. While many are familiar with traditional Akoya stud earrings, South Sea Pearl stud earrings offer something more dramatic.
Of the three types of saltwater pearls, South Sea Pearls are the largest in size. Typically, these pearls range from 8mm in size all the way up to the very rare 27mm. The average size of a South Sea Pearl is between 10mm and 15mm. South Sea Pearls make absolutely stunning stud earrings. One of the things that we are very proud of at Seven Seas Pearls is our incredibly vast inventory of pearls that we have on hand in our showroom. Many times other jewelry stores will have specific items “shipped” in for viewing with a certain client. Our showroom in Los Angeles is open to the public and no appointment is necessary. What this means is that no matter if you are looking for a traditional simple strand of pearls, or something more rare and exotic, we will have a selection on hand for you.
On our website under “South Sea Pearl Studs” you will see a very large collection of South Sea studs ranging from 6mm all the way to 18mm. You will notice for some of the smaller sizes, they are called “South Sea Keshi Pearls”. We have lots of information about Keshi Pearls on our website and blog, but essentially Keshi Pearls do not have a nucleus and are 100% nacre. As a result, they tend to be more irregular in shape and size.
Here is a beautiful example of some of shapes of our South Sea Keshi Pearl Studs:
In the image below, you will see the difference between an 8mm South Sea Pearl, a 10mm, a 12mm and a 15mm. When selecting a size, we recommend taking into consideration how and when you will be wearing your earrings. Smaller pearls tend to have a more casual feel while larger pearls tend to be more dramatic. Overall, each pearl is unique and it is most important that you choose a piece that you will cherish and love to wear for years to come.
As you view and tour our website, please keep in mind that the actual item that you are viewing is the same item that you will receive. We have taken great care to photograph and list each item’s description separately so that you know and are aware of exactly what you will be receiving. As always if you ever have any questions, feel free to contact us or stop by our showroom. We look forward to helping you find the perfect pearl jewelry piece.
